Jesus of Nazareth
Summer Camp, June 19-23 2023, 9:30am-3pm
At St. Albert the Great (1095 Channing Ave, Palo Alto)
During these five days we’ll dive into the Bible, following Jesus through His life, getting to know Him so that He can walk with us through our lives. The pillars of our week will be prayer and Bible readings. The first floor and second floor of our construction will be arts and craft (drawing, clay, construction), singing, fun games, acting and more fun!
Day 1: The Birth of Jesus and the Holy Family Wanderings
Luke 2:1-7, Luke 2:8-20, Matthew 2:13-23
Notice how Jesus was born in poverty, lying in the dirt. But how He was the Light in the darkness. And the Holy Family’s exile, with a trip back and forth through a long desert.
Arts and craft: mapping of the whole region where Jesus lived: Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jerusalem and Egypt.
Day 2: Jesus the Healer
Mark 1:21-39, Luke 7:1-10, Luke 13:10-17.
Acting out these Gospel readings.
Little show in the afternoon
Day 3: Jesus Feeds the Crowds
Luke 9:10-17, John 2:1-25
We will do a painting project to represent what Jesus might have given to the crowd today (Donuts? Cupcakes?)
And a service project to prepare food bags for the poor
Day 4: Jesus Loves children
Mark 10:13-16
John 4:46-54
What has Jesus done in my life? Groups sharing.
And then, in preparation of the next day, we’ll build the town of Jerusalem in cardboard.
Day 5: The Agony, Death and Resurrection of Jesus
Matthew 26:36-46 or Luke 22:39-46. We’ll visualize on our cardboard construction the wanderings of Jesus through Jerusalem as he was tried and condemned.
John 20:1-10, Luke 13:24-49, John 21:1-19
We’ll celebrate His Resurrection with a special lunch and a big treasure hunt with prizes.
Throughout the week we’ll see how these Bible stories can relate to our lives and how it can shape our way of thinking, making us be better persons.
