You are the God who bears the brunt of the question, “Why didn’t you stay where you belong?" You feel the red-faced embarrassment when we hear, “Keep your distance, you foreigner, with your different-colored skin and your strange-sounding speech, with your culture, food, religion, and clothing that are inferior to my own."
In writing the book we wanted to create a way to learn Spanish and English while discovering the history of customs readers may already know, but not the origins of these customs. Too often these traditions are explained as coming from Spain or other European countries, while ignoring the older Indigenous practices. I am an anthropologist and the other coauthor is my mother, a retired kindergarten teacher who used Spanish in the classroom to encourage the children of migrant farmworkers and temporary workers in Mountain View.
Pope Francis wants young people in Argentina to spend at least two minutes a day reading the Gospel. His strong recommendation came in a May 26, 2018, video message to the boys and girls participating in the Second National Youth Meeting in Rosario, Argentina, that took place from May 25 to 27.
Pope Francis - A Man of His Word is a personal journey with Pope Francis. The pope's ideas and his message are central to this documentary, which sets out to present his work of reform and his answers to today's global questions. From his deep concern for the poor and wealth inequality, to his involvement in environmental issues and social justice.
I joined our Diocese’s volunteer group for Restorative Justice over a year ago. We go to our local jails and either hold Bible Study or hold distribution of Holy Communion and a celebration of the Word. I was led into this work after being summoned to jury duty and subsequently thinking about the men, women and children in our jails. My final push came after reading Pope Francis’ call to go out to the edges of our community.

I hope we can continue the conversation. Pat Clough - Email: [email protected]

The first few days of counting calories brought me to a point of self-knowledge. It became easy to discover why I gained so much weight in two years and it helped to illuminate what changes needed to be made. The same is true in the spiritual life. If we want to root out sin, we need to become self-aware. Is there a certain time when I fall prey to sin? Or with a certain group of people? What sin is it that I need to address? Self-knowledge sheds light into the areas which need to change and can be beneficial not only to dieting but also in the spiritual life as well.

The Thursday Morning Scripture and Faith Sharing group has been meeting for over 9 years. It is a “drop-in”, friendly, mixed age group. They use the following Sunday’s liturgy readings from the Breaking Bread Missal as a source for study and lively discussions. They also review, very briefly, salient points from the previous Sunday's homilies. Sondra Dingman is the moderator. These seekers meet from 10-11:30 am at St. Albert Hospitality Room and are always looking for new members to join them. Contact Sondra for more information.
