Those Celebrating Full Christian Initiation: Nadia Carey, Caden Domingo, Jacob Domingo, Peyton Eng, Sarah Eng, Rafael Frans, Adam Hotchkiss, David Kim, Jin Lee, Nicholas Provost, Peter Saldaña; Previously Baptized Catholics Celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation and/or First Eucharist: Rachel Eng, Maya Lopez. We wish to acknowledge and thank their sponsors, catechists, parents, and indeed, the entire parish community who have supported these our brothers and sisters through prayer and witness. May we truly welcome them to our Church and our parish.
Over the next three weekends, the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Sundays of Lent at the 10:30 am Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary, we will celebrate the rites of penance and purification with our elect who are preparing to receive the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil. The purpose of these rites is to uncover all that would lead them away from Christ, so that they might be able to come to a full Christian life. The support of a parish community is vital to this process. At the same time, these brief rites call us, the baptized, to uproot the sin in our lives to be more faithful to our own baptism.
Having continued their preparation to receive the sacraments, God now calls them to become “the elect,” those chosen by the Church for initiation at the Easter Vigil. Their godparents stand as witnesses to the progress they have made, and they inscribe their names in The Book of the Elect. They are sent by the parish community to the Bishop who listens to the testimony of their sponsors and then states, “I now declare you to be members of the elect, to be initiated into the sacred mysteries at the next Easter Vigil.” Thus begins the final phase of their journey towards initiation. The entire community is expected to “surround the elect with prayer, so that the entire Church will accompany and lead them to encounter Christ.” (RCIA 121).

We are seeking parishioners who might consider being a sponsor or god- parent to one of the many adult candidates seeking the Sacraments of Initiation. Sponsors are the spiritual companions to adults who are already baptized, accompanying them until they complete their Sacraments of Initiation. Godparents are the spiritual companions for adults seeking Baptism, to walk with them along their spiritual path all their life.

There are young people in the RCIA process who need sponsors: people from our community willing to support and encourage them as they prepare to receive the sacraments. If you are a fully initiated Catholic aged 16 or older, you could be a sponsor for one of these young people. The time commitment is what you are willing and able to put into it.
