The Wednesday night Bible Study group meets in Kerry’s Korner at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM; although it sometimes runs to 8:30 PM. The readings and discussion are in English. Moderated by a volunteer, the group focuses on scripture, using various concordances, reflections, and study texts, as guides to understanding. Anyone wishing to listen, learn, and contribute is welcome.
The first few days of counting calories brought me to a point of self-knowledge. It became easy to discover why I gained so much weight in two years and it helped to illuminate what changes needed to be made. The same is true in the spiritual life. If we want to root out sin, we need to become self-aware. Is there a certain time when I fall prey to sin? Or with a certain group of people? What sin is it that I need to address? Self-knowledge sheds light into the areas which need to change and can be beneficial not only to dieting but also in the spiritual life as well.
Having continued their preparation to receive the sacraments, God now calls them to become “the elect,” those chosen by the Church for initiation at the Easter Vigil. Their godparents stand as witnesses to the progress they have made, and they inscribe their names in The Book of the Elect. They are sent by the parish community to the Bishop who listens to the testimony of their sponsors and then states, “I now declare you to be members of the elect, to be initiated into the sacred mysteries at the next Easter Vigil.” Thus begins the final phase of their journey towards initiation. The entire community is expected to “surround the elect with prayer, so that the entire Church will accompany and lead them to encounter Christ.” (RCIA 121).

Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Church’s service to the sick and those who care for them must continue with renewed vigour, in fidelity to the Lord’s command (cf. Lk 9:2-6; Mt 10:1-8; Mk 6:7-13) and following the eloquent example of her Founder and Master. The theme for this year’s Day of the Sick is provided by the words that Jesus spoke from the Cross to Mary, his Mother, and to John: “Woman, behold your son ... Behold your mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his home” (Jn 19:26-27
