"Confident in what Jesus asks of us, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops remains steadfast in our commitment to refugees, who are often escaping severe persecution. We will continue to support strengthening social services for persons with mental illness, but we must remember that only a small number of those suffering with these challenges pose a risk to themselves or others. We encourage responsible firearms regulation. And we will advocate on behalf of people facing religious discrimination, including our Muslim brothers and sisters.”
I wish that the Jubilee Indulgence may reach each one as a genuine experience of God's mercy, which comes to meet each person in the Face of the Father who welcomes and forgives, forgetting completely the sin committed. – Pope Francis

Pope Francis’ recent visit to the United States planted a seed in the hearts and imaginations of many people, both people of faith as well as those of no faith. Just look at how much secular media coverage was given to each day of his visit. Every bold word he said to Congress, every unscheduled stop to embrace and bless, and every daring act of compassion he did in those six short days was broadcast live, recorded, Tweeted and blogged, posted on Facebook, and talked about in offices, homes, and social gatherings. Pope Francis, in every way possible, showed mercy, and it changed people’s hearts.

By following the evangelical counsels of chastity, obedience and poverty, they live their life by embarking on services to promote the kingdom of God.

The longstanding crisis of Syrian refugees fleeing the excruciating violence that has consumed their country collided in the streets of Paris with the security crisis posed by Islamist terrorists. No, that's not quite right. None of the terrorists was a refugee. Nearly all, if not all, were French or Belgian nationals and some second-generation immigrants from the Mideast. It was not in the world of facts, but in the world of fears, that the two crises collided.
