Volunteer to help low-income taxpayers to file a tax return
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is an IRS-sponsored program to help low and middle income workers file an income tax return and receive the refunds and credits they are due. There is no cost to the taxpayer. To sign up for this volunteer program, go to:
The time commitment includes training for Tax Law, training in TaxSlayer (the software used to prepare tax returns) and 3 to 4 hours a week from late January to mid-April at your choice of many locations in the Bay Area. There is no cost for the training. No prior experience is necessary. Training classes for new volunteers are scheduled to start on December 3. There is also an online program to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills.
