Quite often, I get asked what Core Members in EDGE and Life Teen youth ministry do. And while I can compile a long list of “responsibilities,” here are three qualities of Core Members that cover the heart of what we do:
Core Members know that Christ is their hope.If you are an adult reading this article, chances are that you have been touched by the Lord in some way that keeps you coming back each Sunday to worship. Core Members know that God is the source of their joy and hope and strive to do their best to be an example of an authentic Christian to our youth.
Core Members know that ministering to teens begins with listening first—teaching, second.Think back to some of your most difficult and awkward moments you’ve had during your middle school and high school years. Teens today are struggling with these issues (and much more!) Core Members know that ministering to teens requires a willingness to dive into their mess and build relationship. From there, Core Members can pass on the Deposit of Faith to open hearts.
Core Members understand that they are on a Mission of high importance. God’s great desire is to fill the void of the hearts of souls who long for Him, yet so many don’t know the way. Core Members know that their most important job is to lead teens closer to Christ; for when a teen encounters Christ, it changes everything. Do you feel called to join our Mission?
