The church shooting in Charleston, the deaths of unarmed African Americans during police custody or apprehension, and the resulting protests and targeting of police officers have emphasized the ongoing struggles of race in America. Our viewpoints are shaped by our experiences, which are shaped by our race and class. The 69 minute film "White Like Me" explores race and racism historically and today through the lens of Tim Wise' work on whiteness and white privilege. The Peace and Justice Task Force of First Congregational Church of Palo Alto will sponsor a showing of this documentary followed by discussion.

Friday, September 25: Vigil against nuclear weapons at Lockheed
Friday, September 25, 12Noon
Lockheed Space Systems in Sunnyvale
Mathilda Avenue and Lockheed Martin Way, Sunnyvale
September's Week of Action will see hundreds of Campaign Nonviolence actions across the nation. Those of us who live near San Francisco need look no further than Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale to find one of the world's deadliest purveyors of destruction - the largest manufacturer and exporter of military weapons, proudly providing the tools necessary for today's "warfighter.” The Pacific Life Community, Multifaith Voices for Peace and Justice and others invite you to attend this vigil where people will silently and nonviolently stand in witness against the violence, destruction and death perpetrated from this place.
Annual fundraiser to benefit the Friends Committee on Legislation in California. Enjoy music, browse book sale, eat good food, check out plant sale and rummage sale. Chance to learn more about Campaign Nonviolence, too!
