Buena Vista’s Posada - A Great Time Was Had By All
Dear Friends - Wasn't that a good time! Greetings by Buena Vista President Erika Escalante, Mayor Karen Holman and Supervisor Joe Simitian expressed a welcoming warmth and clear commitment to saving Buena Vista.
We could hardly wait for our plates of tamales and enchiladas and a bowl of hot pozole (see the photo below). The warm poncha lasted but the atole was soon gone - it is sooo delicious.
The surprise for me this year was the after party. The DJ fired up the sounds and people danced. And danced. First a snaky line twisted through the crowd, followed by line dances - old and young, women and men, BV residents and neighbors, and the girls still in their swirling skirts and colorful headpieces - all moving as one, back and forth, to the side and around, all together. A perfect metaphor for our effort to save Buena Vista.
I continue to be in awe of the organizational skills of BV residents whether in City Council chambers or hosting their community Posada. Thank you BV neighbors for what has become a holiday cultural event for our city. And thank you Friends for your generous donations to offset some Posada expenses - we met our goal with a few dollars to spare.
It was a sweet evening. See you all at Posada next year - may there be many more to come. Good Holidays and a Happy New Year.
