St. Albert The Great Flooring Progress Report I
The first stage of the project was to renew the St. Albert The Great sanctuary. Much of the original marble flooring was obscured by a carpeted two-tier platform installed 30 years ago. The objective was to expose all the marble, but it was unknown if the original marble had been damaged during the platform construction. If the marble was badly damaged, the platform would have been retained and re-carpeted, whereas if the marble was intact, it would be cleaned, polished and sealed to its original beauty. This project had to be done first because the color choice of the carpeting throughout the church might be affected by whether or not there was extensive carpeting in the sanctuary.
Removal of the sanctuary platform and carpet revealed some surprises, but the original marble was undamaged. Wednesday and Thursday this week the marble was cleaned and polished, and Friday it will be sealed. Those attending the weekend masses at St. Albert the Great will be the first to get a sense of what the refreshed sanctuary will look like. Please see the following HELP WANTED ad. (See the picture at the end of today’s eBulletin)
The next step in the project is the solicitation of flooring bids and selection of the carpeting. We welcome everyone’s comments now and will be especially interested in everyone’s opinions once the carpet samples are on display.
